Just wanted to here anybody else's thoughts on that 'game' here on site.

In my opinion. that game can't fairly give its opinion or suggest what type of gambler and habits you have what-so-ever.

The whole process changes if you are playing a game for fun or no money and playing the same game with real money.

The 1st question when you are done is:

How risky did you play this game?

Honestly, I didnt think about it at all. Like it never entered my head. i would glance at the total every now and then but i wasnt concerned either way how much there was.

However, give someone or get someone to put there own $2000 in the same game and play it out, I would almost guarantee the results would be drastically different.

What are your thoughts on it?

Hi MoneyMonsta,

I appreciate your thoughts.

I spent some time analyzing the game from various angles and I personally feel that it has its limits. It is quite difficult to imagine getting in the mood of winning and loosing your own money.

However, I read research papers and the idea with results upon which the game is built are quite convincing. The game is mainly (among other things) analyzing the impulsivity of decisions based on wins and losses. Problematic gambling is highly connected with impulsivity so measuring it can provide reasonable image of the risk. The thing is not to think very much about your decisions, but also not to do them randomly. I had struggles getting in that state at first: Just letting go somewhere in between conscious and unconscious. But it worked after all.

The game is definitely not a silver bullet for gambling harm (like if there is any) and works better for some than for the others. However, it is currently the most effective and accessible risk assessment tool out there. And if nothing, at least it makes people to thing about their play.

Best,

Šimon

Fair enough. But if I were a bettin' man. (😉) I would say that alot of that 'clinical' or case study FAQS are mostly there for non-gamblers sake and policy regulator's . I would happily estimate that the only thing that goes through a gamblers mind is," I 've put a small fortune in this machine, Its gotta pay out sometime!" . And the same would apply to online gaming as well. I have been the foolish gambler more times than id like to admit but i can honestly say I have never thought or tried to control any aspect of my gaming during those times. I realize its here to offer players, something..right? Realistically, the same dopameans that are released during gambling, are factually the same ones released doing illicet drugs or having sex...Try controlling those addictions just the same has got to start with the user first. You have to willfully and willingly want to change whatevr aspect of your life you deem as out of control. Idk, mayeb its just me.

I agree that it could have little value for someone who cannot think straight about their gambling. Other actions make sense at that stage. The game has the most significant potential for prevention. The whole idea of responsible gambling is practically about the prevention of developing harmful habits. Being aware of the risk and having an estimation for your own gambling is just one piece of the puzzle that contributes to avoiding harm.
