My question is , does it mean bank does not even want to try to recover funds, or they tried and they were unsuccessful? Thank you.

It all depends how you raised the claim. Who was the merchant, how you paid, was it a money transfer, card payment with visa/mastercard, how you positioned it to the bank etc. All these things are taken into account.
